July 30: First Court Hearing
The City of Chicago is suing MAT, which has 5 counts against it. None of MAT’s owners appeared at the hearing. Their counsel appeared instead, Thomas Raines and Patrick Daley Thompson, the former 11th Ward Alderman removed from office for felony offenses. Read the entire suit.
MAT’s attorneys claimed that the pavement is permeable and its installation is temporary, despite evidence to the contrary. After some discussion, a continuance was granted until August 20, 2026. Counsel for the City reminded MAT’s representatives that they were subject to fines upto $4000/day for every day the condition was not corrected.
