City Issues Damen Silos Demolition Permits

Damen Silos as seen from the river

We're not done yet

The City of Chicago issued demolition permits for the Damen Silos on July 3, 2025. Demolition work is exepcted to begin at the Silos after the Fourth of July holiday. See city demolition approval here, or search 2900 S. Damen on the Department of Buildings website.

We're not done advocating for community assets on this site. Our neighbors deserve better public greenspace and access to the river!

Thanks to the hundreds of neighbors who came out for public meetings over the last 3 years, as well as the nearly 900 neighbors who signed the petition to make this public space.

Stay tuned for further action as the city implements the South Branch Connectivity Project Framework Plan, which will put more resources behind the community-driven plan for our riverfront. We expect the implementation plan to go to Plans Commission this fall.

Future building on the Silos site will require going through the Planned Development Process, which gives far more weight to community input than the city's demolition process does. This process may offer additional opportunities to capture public greenspace and other amenities, especially given the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers demolition agreement, which mandates certain features in the public interest.
