River Edge Conditions Audit

Neighbors paddle a canoe in Bubbly Creek, near Canal Origins Park

MPDC is working with partners including the Chicago Harbor Safety Committee, Friends of the Chicago River, and Urban Rivers in order to document river edge conditions for safety and recreation. To do this, we have released an online form to collect location data and photos of escape ladders, docks, and more. Data collected through this activity will be used to:

*Request specific improvements for watercraft user safety and comfort

*Request removal of objects or corrections of conditions that threaten safety

*Seek ways to deconflict various users of the river and river edge, including motor boats, human powered craft, and fishers, among others

*Seek creative opportunities to improve access and experiences on the river

Anyone can use the form, and we will release the collected data on our website as things get going. We will also share with relevant government agencies to pursue improvements.
